Assistant Accountant | Accounts Assistant
Job Responsibilities
- Ensure monthly & yearly accounting periods are properly closed.
- Prepare accurate, timely financial statements and management reports in compliance with Sri Lanka Accounting Standards and company policies.
- Perform variance analysis on monthly, quarterly, and yearly accounts to support cost control initiatives.
- Liaise with auditors, strengthen internal controls, and support governance process and system improvements.
- Prepare all supporting schedules related to financial statements.
- Assist Finance Manager with budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Support system implementation and control.
- Develop policies and procedures with guidance from the Finance Manager.
- Maintain all GL Accounts and subledgers accurately and timely.
- Perform other finance department functions as assigned by the Finance Manager.
Job Qualifications
- Reading for CA, ACCA, CIMA. Final level exams preferred, but intermediate level students are encouraged to apply.
- Minimum three years of successful audit firm experience.
- Experience in financial reporting in mercantile establishments is an advantage.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline is a plus.
- Proficiency in accounting software (SAP, QuickBooks, SAGE, or any ERP system).
- Advanced MS Excel skills.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills in English and Sinhala.
Accounts Assistant Responsibilities
- Assist the Finance team with day-to-day activities.
- Check the accuracy of bills related to IOUs and petty cash vouchers.
- Support the Finance team during periodic inventory counts.
- Handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Travel to Colombo office and banks as required (e.g., cheque signing, document submission).
- A valid driving license and motorbike are advantageous.
Accounts Assistant Qualifications
- Passed GCE A/L examination in Commerce/Science streams.
- Reading for any professional accounting examination (CIMA, ACCA, AAT, CMA) is an advantage.
- Working knowledge in Excel.
- Prior experience in a similar role is a plus.
- Positive and motivated attitude.
