About the GCF Knuckles Project
The GCF Knuckles Project, financed by the Green Climate Fund, aims to enhance climate resilience among subsistence farmers and plantation communities in the Knuckles catchment. The project focuses on sustainable land management, resilient value chains, Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES), and eco-tourism models.
Objectives of the Assignment
- Develop a branding and marketing strategy for project-supported products, services, and ecosystem initiatives.
- Position the Knuckles Project as a model of climate resilience and sustainable livelihoods nationally and globally.
- Build capacity of community organizations and stakeholders in marketing, business planning, and management practices.
Responsibilities
- Brand Development & Communication:
- Design a brand identity for the GCF Knuckles Project and associated products/services.
- Develop communication guidelines for consistent messaging across stakeholders.
- Promote the Knuckles landscape as a green-listed destination under eco-tourism initiatives.
- Marketing & Value Chain Strengthening:
- Prepare a marketing strategy for climate-resilient crops, value-added products, and eco-tourism services.
- Conduct market assessments and identify niche opportunities for green-certified products.
- Support the establishment of market linkages with private sector buyers, retailers, and exporters.
- Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) Promotion:
- Assist in packaging and promoting PES models to attract private sector and donor support.
- Develop business cases and promotional materials for PES mechanisms.
- Capacity Building & Knowledge Transfer:
- Train farmer groups, community-based organizations, and SMEs on marketing, branding, and business management.
- Support the PMU and stakeholder institutions in integrating branding and marketing strategies into long-term planning.
- Management & Sustainability:
- Provide guidance on sustainable business models for eco-tourism and PES.
- Recommend mechanisms to integrate project branding into national marketing platforms.
Deliverables
- Inception report with methodology and work plan.
- Branding package (brand identity, communication toolkit).
- Comprehensive Marketing & Branding Strategy.
- Business cases for PES and green value chains.
- Capacity building workshops and training modules.
- Final report summarizing outputs, lessons learned, and sustainability roadmap.
Duration
6 months (intermittent inputs), with the possibility of extension based on project needs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Postgraduate qualification in Marketing, Business Management, Branding, or related field.
- At least 10 years’ experience in marketing, branding, and strategic management.
- Proven experience in developing branding and market strategies for community-based or environmental projects.
- Familiarity with eco-tourism, climate-smart agriculture, and PES mechanisms will be an added advantage.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
